1200HP towboat

In January 2012, Tell City Boat Works was contracted to build a 1200 horsepower work boat. The boat measures 65’ x 26’ x 10’ and is powered by two Caterpillar C18 Acert marine propulsion engines running at 1800 rpm. The engines are coupled to Twin Disc reduction gears with a ratio of 5.95 : 1 and turning a Kahlenberg 62” stainless steel wheels. Power is generated from a pair of John Deere generator engines turning out 40 kw at 1800 rpm.

The engine room is protected from fire with a high pressure carbon dioxide suppression system. A 10 horsepower fire pump and required fire extinguishers pretect the rest of the vessel. All the engines are keel cooled through Fernstrum coolers. Steering is accomplished with an electric over hydraulic full follow up system.

The vessel has a fuel capacity of approximately 10,000 gallons and a potable water capacity of approximately 4000 gallons. Dirty water is treated with a Seahorse MSD. Two 40 ton capacity winches on the main deck and two 20 ton winches on the rigging deck supply the required holding power. There are quarters for a 6 person crew, a full galley, and two heads on board.
